What solar panels cost in Perth
No teaser prices. Every home is different, so your price is confirmed on a written quote after a survey of your property.
The cost of solar panels depends on your home: the size of the system, your roof type, pitch and orientation, access and scaffolding, the inverter, whether you add a battery, and any electrical upgrades. Rather than quote a figure that may not fit your property, we confirm the price on a written quote after a survey. Solar panels and batteries currently carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027.
What moves the price
These are the main things that determine what your installation costs:
- 1
System size and number of panels
The more panels your roof can take and your household needs, the larger the system and the higher the cost. The survey looks at your electricity use and usable roof area to size the system properly rather than simply fitting as many panels as possible.
- 2
Roof type
Slate, concrete tile, clay tile and flat roofs each need different mounting methods. A simple tiled roof is usually quicker to work on than natural slate or a roof with dormers, valleys and chimneys to work around.
- 3
Roof pitch and orientation
The angle of your roof and the direction it faces affect how many panels make sense and where they go. East–west splits or awkward pitches can mean a different layout, extra mounting work or a different inverter set-up.
- 4
Access and scaffolding
Most installations need scaffolding. The cost depends on the height of the property, access from the street or garden, and how many elevations need covering. A tall Victorian villa or tenement gable costs more to scaffold than a low bungalow. Scaffolding is included in your written quote — never a hidden extra.
- 5
Inverter choice
A single string inverter, a hybrid inverter ready for a battery, or panel-level optimisers or microinverters for shaded roofs all carry different costs. The right choice depends on your roof, any shading and whether you plan to add a battery.
- 6
Adding a battery and its capacity
A battery adds to the cost, and a larger battery costs more than a smaller one. The right capacity depends on how much solar you generate and when you use electricity — the survey helps decide whether a battery is worthwhile for you and what size.
- 7
Electrics and consumer unit upgrades
Some older Perth homes need a consumer unit upgrade or other electrical work to take the installation safely. The surveyor identifies this and includes it in the written quote if it is needed.
- 8
Bird protection and extras
Bird mesh around the panel edges stops pigeons nesting underneath and is worth considering in many parts of Perth. Other extras, such as monitoring or an EV charger, also affect the final figure.
Your price is confirmed on the written quote after the survey, so you know exactly what is included before you decide anything.
How solar saves you money
Every unit of solar electricity you use in your home is a unit you do not buy from the grid. With a battery, you can store daytime generation and use it in the evening instead of importing at peak rates.
Electricity you send back to the grid can earn Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) payments. SEG rates are set by each energy supplier, so it is worth comparing them.
How much you save depends on your usage, your tariff, your roof orientation and shading. We do not promise savings figures.
Not a guarantee. Subject to survey.
0% VAT
Solar panels and batteries carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. Your written quote reflects this. When the relief ends, VAT will add to the cost.
Grants and loans
There is no general grant for solar panels on their own in Scotland. Some means-tested schemes exist for lower-income households, and we will tell you honestly if you might qualify.
