Heat pumps at a glance
Price on your written quote
Every home is different, so we don’t publish a set price. The cost is confirmed on your written quote after the survey. Loans available, subject to status.
Replaces oil and LPG
A heat pump replaces your boiler entirely. The survey tells you whether it makes sense for your home before you commit to anything.
MCS-certified partners
We install through MCS-certified partners. Warranty and guarantee terms are confirmed in writing on your quotation.
How a heat pump is sized
A heat pump has to be matched to your home. Too small and it struggles on cold days; too large and it costs more than it needs to. That is why the size is never guessed — it is worked out after a survey.
At the survey, a heat loss assessment is carried out. The surveyor will look at each room, the insulation in the walls, loft and floors, the type and condition of your windows, your existing radiators and how much hot water your household uses.
From that assessment they calculate how much heat your home needs, and specify a heat pump and radiator layout to suit.
What affects the cost
The main things that affect the price of a heat pump installation are the size of your property and how much heat it loses, the size of the unit needed, whether any radiators or pipework need upgrading, whether a new hot water cylinder is required, where the outdoor unit can go, and any work needed on your electrics.
Because these vary so much from home to home, the price is confirmed on your written quote after the survey. Loans available, subject to status.
Oil and LPG homes
Oil and LPG heating is common across Highland and rural Perthshire — Pitlochry, Aberfeldy, Dunkeld, Comrie, the glens, Kinross-shire farms. If your home runs on oil or LPG, a heat pump replaces the boiler entirely.
Pairing a heat pump with solar panels and a battery can reduce electricity costs further — but we won’t pretend it’s cheap. The survey tells you whether it makes sense for your home. See our cost guide for more on solar costs.
What we specify
We specify Vaillant air source heat pumps. The exact model depends on the property’s heat-loss calculation, which is carried out at survey.

About funding
Some means-tested schemes exist for lower-income households, and we will tell you honestly if you might qualify. Otherwise, the price is the one on your written quote. Loans available, subject to status.
The process
How the process works
Tell us about your home
We ask about your current heating, your property type and your postcode, so the survey can be arranged properly.
Survey of your home
A surveyor visits your property to carry out a heat loss assessment, looking at your rooms, insulation, windows, radiators and hot water use. We install through MCS-certified partners.
Written quote and installation
You receive a written quote for a heat pump sized to your home. The price is confirmed on that quote, and installation is booked only once you are happy to go ahead.
A heat pump isn’t right for every Perthshire home
It probably isn't for you if:
- Your home already has mains gas central heating — a heat pump may not save you money over gas at current prices
- The property needs significant insulation work before a heat pump will perform properly — the survey will identify this
- You’re in a flat or terraced house where there’s no space for an outdoor unit
- You’re planning to move within the next two years
- You aren’t the homeowner and don’t have the owner’s permission for the work
If that's you, we'll say so on the first call rather than send a surveyor.
